Compagnie Galouche

La Cie Galouche presents its ritual “dance of swords”.

The sword dance is an ancient ritual dance dating from the 14th century. Re-choreographed by Renaat Van Craeynbrouck in 1995, this dance is presented once a year in the streets of the villages of the commune of Beloeil.

It is carried out by men linked by swords. This channel is the expression of solidarity within the group. The crossing of swords in very specific and rhythmic times is the symbol of the passage of young adolescents into the community of men. The killing of the wolf and its resurrection herald the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
