Brasstown Morris

The Brasstown Morris Dancers practice weekly at the John C Campbell Folk School in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina. The Folk School has fostered English and American country dance for one hundred years. The BMD consists of three different styles of Morris dancing- Sticks in the Mud , a mixed side of Border started in 1997; Dames Rocket, a women’s NW clog side started in 2006; and Rapper Magic , the newest addition to the group. Musicians play fiddle, accordion, guitar and sometimes snare and trombone. The dancers range in age from fifteen to seventy and represent a wide array of their Appalachian community. Some of them are mountain cloggers as well. The group has attended many folk festivals in the UK for over thirty years most recently Wimborne and Evesham in 2017. The JCCFS fosters a community of non-competitiveness and offers craft, art , cooking, music and dance weeklong residential classes for adults of all ages. BMD acts as ambassadors for its beloved folk school .
